Anyone who knows me, there’s nothing I love more than chocolate. Chocolate chip cookies, brownies, Oreos, and Nutella, are some of the items that are stocked in my pantry. But let’s not forget the sweetest treat: candy. I could rank all my favorite chocolate bars (Crunch bars and Kit Kats are the top two and that’s the only correct answer), but that’s not what we’re here for. Candy is usually associated with Halloween for obvious reasons, but what I love the most is how creative brands are when incorporating the spooky holiday into their sweet treats. Hershey’s isn’t like other brands, hopping on the pumpkin and pumpkin spice flavor trends this month — the candy brand started earlier. Released in the middle of July, Hershey’s dropped its Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins — sold exclusively for fans looking to jump-start their fall and spooky festivities. Then, on August 8, the Hershey Company revealed its hauntingly delicious lineup featuring new and returning flavors. So, as a chocoaholic, I did my due diligence and tried the lineup with the help of Hershey’s.
What candies are on Hershey’s spooky lineup?
From Kit Kats to Reese’s to Twizzlers, Hershey’s has four new products on its lineup and six returning.
Before getting into the new products, the returning treats are Reese’s Pumpkins (available in a range of sizes), Reese’s Skeletons, Reese’s Assorted Jumbo Bag Snack Size Shapes featuring ghosts, bats, and pumpkins, Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Harry Potter Standard Size Bar (12 collectible wrappers) and Kisses, Chocolate & Sweets Assortments, including Haribo Goldbears, and Halloween-themed SkinnyPop and Pirate’s Booty (available in Halloween-themed 0.5 oz bags and 12-count multipacks).
The new products include Kit Kat Ghost Toast, Reese’s Werewolf Tracks, Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Harry Potter Bar Snack Size, and Twizzlers Ghosts.
“Hershey has long been a leader in Halloween festivities, offering beloved treats that have become synonymous with the season,” said Heather Seamans, Senior Manager Fall Marketing at The Hershey Company, in the press release. “This year, with Kit Kat Ghost Toast and Reese’s Werewolf Tracks, we’re showcasing our commitment to innovation and fun with bold, exciting Halloween flavors, inviting consumers to choose both!”
First up, is the Kit Kat Ghost Toast. This is your classic, crisp wafers but no chocolate. Instead, the wafers are wrapped in a cinnamon toast-flavored creme and look orange. This one is my favorite of the lineup — I didn’t expect to like the orange candy so much, but that cinnamon toast flavor had me hooked. No really, I didn’t notice I ate half of the king-sized bar.
It’s available for a limited time in standard, king, and snack sizes.
I loved the details of the Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Harry Potter Bar Snack Size. Like the standard-sized bar and kisses, the snack size has designs of the franchise. I counted five different types of wrappers including “Which House Awaits?” the insignias of each house, and the defining characteristics of each house. Though I’m not a Harry Potter fan, I was excited to see if the chocolate bar would reveal my house. I chose to open the “Which House Awaits?” bar for dramatic effect and I got Hufflepuff. This is such a fun chocolate bar (and chocolatey smooth) to pass around during a Harry Potter-themed movie night, to just give out on Halloween, or to snack on by yourself.
Next, is Reese’s Werewolf Tracks. I have to preface that I’m not a big Reese’s fan so, I came into this tasting not expecting too much. These are different from your average Reese’s including a combo of vanilla-flavored creme, milk chocolate, and peanut butter — available in snack, standard, and king sizes. I liked the mix of the three but after the Harry Potter Bar, I was hoping to see more detail on this candy.
Finally, Twizzlers Ghosts. Hershey’s expanded the seasonal Twizzlers shapes line from bunnies to include the first-ever Twizzlers Halloween shape — ghosts. I didn’t get to try these cherry-flavored chewy candies, but the ghost shape is absolutely adorable!
If everything pumpkin spice didn’t already have me in the fall mood, these candies do.
