Watch out Campus CookiesInsomnia Cookies has set up shop on the Corner, and they are obviously here to stay. You may have thought Roots was the best addition to the Corner, but Insomnia is offering up some stiff competition in that department.

Ever since Insomnia Cookies opened last month, the world of late-night snacking hasn’t been the same. In a chocolaty battle of sweet proportion, the real question is: Insomnia Cookies or Campus Cookies?

Since you’ve probably already heard all about Campus Cookies (or been there yourself), here is what you need to know about Insomnia…

  1. Insomnia Cookies was founded in 2003 at the University of Pennsylvania.
  2. There are more than sixty-five Insomnia locations around the country.
  3. Insomnia delivers until 3 am EVERY day of the week.
  4. All on-Grounds and most off-Grounds housing is in delivery range.
  5. At any given time, the menu offers more than a dozen different cookie varieties along with brownies, ice cream and cookie sandwiches.

Now, as the University of Virginia chapter of Spoon University, we decided to take matters into our own hands and make the mature decision. Obviously, we had to do a taste test.

The Test

Both Insomnia Cookies and Campus Cookies were kind enough to donate forty-eight cookies each to our chapter. After oo-ing and ah-ing at the boxes of snickerdoodles, oatmeal raisins and deluxe chocolates, we got to the fun part: the taste test.

Each of us closed our eyes and took a bite (well, probably more than a bite) of one cookie from Insomnia and one cookie from Campus Cookies. With our eyes still closed, we rated each cookie and decided which chocolate chips we liked better than the other. At the end of our test, happily full of cookies, we had our result…

The Results

Through a heart wrenching, tear drawing battle, the conclusion came to *drumroll please* a cookie is a cookie. Who doesn’t like an ooey, gooey bundle of joy on a Tuesday night? How can we choose a favorite if we like them all?

You may be thinking that is a “totally lame” result, but I challenge you to taste test a dozen different cookies and then tell me you didn’t like them all. Honestly, we would all be happy chowing down on a chocolate chunk from either provider any night of the week.

Campus Cookies may be the old pro, but Insomnia Cookies is a definite contender as the new kid on the block. Even though people may think UVA can’t sustain two different cookie providers, we would argue we most definitely can and most definitely will.

Next time you walk down the Corner, stop by one of these fine establishments and get yourself a cookie. We promise you won’t regret it.

So finally, remember, in the words of the Cookie Monster, “C is for cookie and cookie is for me.”
