Have you ever found yourself waiting outside Mellow forever for trivia night only to find that they have no more seats left? Yeah, you, me and everyone else. I’m sorry but I have s**t to do on a Wednesday night. I do not have time to wait in line, or to arrive two hours early just to maybe get a table big enough for me and a select few friends.
1. You Will Get a Seat
As briefly mentioned above, Mellow’s trivia night is crowded, always crowded. Sure, this is certainly a result of a fun event (bravo Mellow, bravo), but this crowd has impeded my ability to display my sub-par trivia skills one too many times. Since Crozet’s C.A.H. night is fairly new, you will get a seat, I promise.
2. You Can Bring a Crew
Because of the overwhelming crowd at Mellow, it can be hard — a.k.a. likely impossible — to bring a sizable group to trivia night. So unless your game-night-going gang solely consists of you and one other companion, you may want to consider Crozet’s considerably larger venue.
3. It’s Outside
Hello beautiful Virginia weather, we missed you. It’s thankfully spring again, which means C-ville’s outdoor bar season is once again upon us. Mellow’s trivia night only has a few tables outside, while Crozet’s C.A.H. is outside. I feel this point needs no more explanation. It’s simply a no-brainer.
4. Food and Drink Specials
Fun fact: Crozet has some sort of food, and/or drink special every day. Lucky for us, Wednesday’s specials include “buy one, get one free” garlic knots (from 5-10 pm) and $5 domestic pitchers.
I am currently straining to remember Mellow’s trivia night deals… which begs the question, are there even any?
5. The Fresh Zen (and beer)
While there isn’t nearly the same extensive beer selection at Crozet as there is at Mellow, there is the Fresh Zen. Yes, I’m sure we’ve all heard the rumor about people (somewhere) existing that say they “don’t love” the Zen. Regardless of these fallen few, I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that Fresh Zens beat beer, always.
6. Cards Against Humanity vs. Trivia
Say goodbye to the (arbitrarily) intellectual Hunger Games that comes with selecting a group for Mellow’s trivia night. The strategy for Crozet’s C.A.H. night is that there is no strategy. Your success lies entirely within the judges hands, so welcome one and all to the beautiful debauchery that is Cards Against Humanity.
7. The Judges and Prizes
As for the prizes, you have an opportunity to win something in either first, second or third place. Not to mention, if you win best name you get a prize for that too. Their prizes include gift cards to Crozet and various concert tickets to the Jefferson Theater. Last week they gave away a $50 gift card, and tickets to see Moon Taxi and Big Gigantic.
