I like my coffee how I like my men: tall, dark and handsome. But sometimes as a college student I will go for anything, rejoicing at the sight of a “Convenience Points Accepted Here” sign. We all want to get outside the Comm. Ave. Starbucks bubble every once and a while though, so I did a little research and came up with the perfect local coffee shops for any and every type of caffeine addict near BU:

1. Flour Bakery: For those who like to photograph their food and drinks (we understand you)

Flour is one of Boston’s most well-established coffee chains. In addition to the unreal coffee, Flour has something for everyone to eat, including extensive gluten free and nut free options. So grab an iced hazelnut (my personal fav) and pick a menu item at random, because you’re sure to love it and sure to Instagram it too.

2. Thinking Cup: For the shopaholics

Conveniently located on Newbury Street, the Thinking Cup is the perfect pit-stop to get you through any shopping marathon. Whether you need a break from the bag-towing or you’re just stopping by for a quick espresso shot, Thinking Cup is your spot.

3. Pavement Coffeehouse: For the socialites

Coffee with a side of conversation, can’t say no to that. The homey, welcoming ambiance is what draws in couples, friends and families to all its shops. So if you want to charm your next date or you just want to warm up for a while with some friends and some hot coffee, head to Pavement.

4. Blue State Coffee: For the students actually trying to get sh*t done

If you’ve got a pile of homework but Mugar is just a little too far or a little too musty-smelling for you, Blue State is your haven. And with free WiFi and outlets every few feet on the walls, there’s no excuse not to sit there for as long as it takes to finish that work you’ve been procrastinating on all week.

5. J.P. Licks: For the Boston natives who are sick of Dunkies (sinful)

Not everyone in Massachusetts runs on Dunkin’ Donuts. Named after Boston’s beloved Jamaica Plain, where the chain first opened, J.P. Licks is well known for its unbeatable ice cream, but their coffee holds its own. Roasted right here in Boston, the coffee redefines the city’s reputation as Bean Town.
