Krispy Kreme has been making their delicious doughnuts since 1937. Founded and currently headquartered in Winston-Salem, NC, Krispy Kreme currently has over 1,000 shops all over the United States. If you think that Dunkin’ Donuts beats this amazing doughnut shop, I’m sorry to break it to you, but you’re sorely mistaken, and here’s why:
1. Original Glazed Doughnut
First and foremost, no one can top Krispy’s classic glazed doughnut – and especially not Dunkin’. This classic pastry is made fresh at every store and coated with the most amazing sweet glaze that has been perfected since 1945.
2. Dunkin’ Donuts doesn’t make their ‘donuts’ in-house
This might sound crazy, right? But Dunkin’ Donuts doesn’t make their pastries in their stores. So, if you stop by a DD at the end of the day, they usually won’t have a doughnut in sight and won’t get more until the next morning. So if you think their “doughnuts” look like fake like I do, this is why. I don’t know about you, but a mass-produced doughnut doesn’t sound appealing to me.
3. Krispy Kreme’s Hot Sign
Okay, this might be the best app ever, but Krispy Kreme not only has a Hot Light for every store to let you know when they’ve freshly made doughnuts, but there is also an app for you to download so you can put in your location and the app will tell you if your local KK has hot doughnuts.
4. The spelling of ‘Donut’
Honestly, I never really understood Dunkin’ spelling it this way. Doughnuts are made of just that – dough… While I do love doughnuts, I don’t think Dunkin’ is running on the right track with this one.
5. Krispy’s coffee is ethically sourced.
On their FAQ page, KK goes on to explain that while their coffee is not certified Fair Trade for a specific reason, and it’s that “growers with small farms may not grow enough coffee to qualify for Fair Trade status.” So they support the smaller farms that still “care deeply about the welfare of their workers and the environment.”
6. Free hats
This is so fun and really cute, Krispy Kreme gives free paper hats that copy the style of what their doughnut makers used to wear back in the day.
8. You can watch the glazing process
In most Krispy shops, you can actually see the doughnuts being glazed. It’s honestly one of the most satisfying things to watch.
9. There’s a chance for free doughnuts
Like I said before, Krispy Kreme makes doughnuts all day, so sometimes they’ll have doughnuts left over at the end of the day and if you’re lucky and come in before closing, you might be offered some freebies.
10. The taste
Let’s face the facts, Krispy Kreme doughnuts taste a lot better than Dunkin’ Donuts. They are made fresher, you can eat them warm, and there are so many varieties of their doughnuts that you could never go wrong with.
Krispy Kreme cranks out way better doughnuts than Dunkin’ Donuts and if you don’t believe me, stop in a KK and check it out for yourself (just make sure you don’t pull an Ariana Grande, no matter how tempting it may be).
