As a child, my penchant for sneakily eating raw cookie dough drove my mom insane. Early Saturday mornings, I would wake up before the sun rose, tip-toe downstairs and reach for the giant tub of cookie dough kept on the top shelf of the fridge. With the prize finally secured, I settled down in the kitchen and shoved as much as I could down my throat while watching Jimmy Neutron. This bliss never lasted long: my cookie dough eating euphoria typically ended with my mother angrily snatching it away and declaring that the raw eggs could “kill me.”

The threat of salmonella hasn’t done much to slow my cookie dough consumption; however, I have discovered that there is finally a product that helps ease this fear, while still tasting deliciously like “real” cookie dough. Advertised as “ready to eat cookie dough,” Edoughble produces a variety of egg- and preservative-free cookie dough flavors that can be ordered for delivery via their website. Flavors are limited, and it’s hardly cheap (most tubs are around $8.50), but for my birthday, I decided to treat myself to the 4 most popular options the company offers. Here’s my definitive ranking:

1. Birthday Bash

While I’m not normally a fan of non-traditional flavors, I barreled through this container faster than the others, mainly due to the lighter flavor and refreshingly sweet smell. Simply sugar cookie dough with sprinkles, this is a must-buy.

2. S’More Please

Packed with chocolate chunks and a marshmallow swirl, this flavor was hard to put away after I dug in. The mix-ins bordered on overwhelming, but for a unique dough-eating experience, this one is perfect.

3. Chocolate Chip Off the Ol’ Block

Not quite the same as regular, raw cookie dough, but a plausible alternative for those craving the traditional choice. A bit chalky in my opinion, but who’s complaining?

4. Cookies N’ Dream

The only flavor I wouldn’t order again. The chocolate dough was too rich for me, and it seemed like I was chewing on a mushed up power bar, to be honest.

Amongst my friends, the consensus around this new dough is certainly not unanimous. Some love the idea of added “health” benefits (keep in mind: it’s still loaded with sugar) of eating cookie dough without any fake preservatives, while others can’t imagine cookie dough without its core quality: artificiality. While I’ll admit it isn’t perfect, Edoughble cookie dough is something all college students need to splurge on at least once before graduation.
