After scrolling through my Instagram timeline, I came across hashtags leading me to Kayla Itsines Instagram. She created a fitness and eating program called the Bikini Body Guide. At first, the name of the program bothered me and I didn't understand why it was all about having a "bikini body". But after learning about her program, I discovered that she promotes more than just being skinny. She wants people to feel confident and beautiful with who they are, which made me want to start her program. And then I committed to her 12-week program. Here's my journey with it.

The Start of It All

With no school work to do and a lot of time on my hands, I thought that winter break would be the best time to start. The program consists of 2-3 resistance workouts, 2-3 days of LISS (Low Intensity Steady State) training (equivalent to a 45-minute walk), and one rest day. After a few weeks, you eventually start incorporating HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training).

The first workout day is a 28-minute resistance training session. You complete two 7-minute workouts. The first day is legs and cardio, which I was excited for because leg workouts are my favorite. I instantly began sweating (a lot) and was out of breath just the entire time. But afterwards, I felt great. Although I was nervous about how sore I would be the next day.

Soreness Level: 100

When I woke up the next day and got out of bed; I could barely walk. I can’t remember the last time I've been this sore. Somehow, someway, I was still able to do my 45-minute walk. I had another resistance training workout that included arms and abs, but my legs were still sore. I was dreading this workout, and I kept pushing it off and told myself I would work out later.

Finally it hit 8:30 PM and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills started at 9:00 PM. I told myself that if I didn’t workout, I couldn’t watch it. And that little motivation worked. Again, this was a tough workout, but I pushed through my shaking arms and completed it. And shockingly, I wasn't sore the next day. Maybe I was just numb to it all.

To be Continued

After my first week doing Kayla's Bikini Body Guide, I discovered that these workouts are not easy, but, they make me feel great. I’m just hoping that as the weeks go on, my legs won’t constantly be sore.

It feels great to complete Kayla's workout sessions, and it's motivating to see other program users post their transformations on social media. The best part is that you can do the resistance workouts in your dorm or apartment. I'm excited to continue this journey, and I totally encourage you to look into it if this is something you've been interested in.
