Hidden below street level on the popular Newbury Street, PURO Ceviche Bar CANNOT be missed. Within the array of ramen joints, boba spots, and Italian favorites along the street, PURO stands out with a Latin-inspired menu. Some of their signature menu options are the tacos, ceviche, and oysters. For your next Taco Tuesday you should definitely stop by PURO Ceviche Bar.
During the warmer seasons PURO offers outdoor seating, but what really drew me in was the atmosphere inside the restaurant. For a date night or a girls night out, the dimly lit and boisterous environment really adds to your dining experience. The unique art covered brick walls and beautifully displayed bottles behind the bar provide an instagram worthy background.
Sitting at the bar is a fun way to dine at PURO. It is the perfect spot to take in the art and enjoy the drinks and food. Don't forget to take some pictures!
The Tacos
Carnitas de Puerco: braised pork, red onion, cilantro, avocado, green sauce
With seven different tacos on the menu, it was hard to choose only two to try. This carnitas taco was the right choice and it did not need many toppings to be the perfect bite. The meat itself was the star and was full of flavor. A fresh green sauce and chopped up onion was the perfect compliment to the fatty meat, creating such a well balanced taco.
However, the carne may have surpassed the carnitas taco. The steak was cooked to perfection and the the slight grill char brought a nice smokey flavor to the dish. Although the meat could really stand on its own, the addition of the salsa verde and beautiful slices of avocado and red chili made each bite a burst of deep and complex flavors.
There were many other taco options on the menu that look equally as fantastic. Depending on what you are in the mood for, there are tacos with vegetables, chicken, shrimp, and fish.
Oysters
Oysters: daily local oyster selection - 2.75 each
If you are a fan of oysters, PURO offers fresh local oysters daily. They are the perfect refreshing appetizer.
Ceviche
Octopus: leche de tigre, clamato, avocado, cucumber, red onion, cilantro
As their namesake suggests, the variety of ceviche on the menu is incredible. Whether you like shrimp or octopus, sea bass or tuna, they have it all. This inherently bright and fresh dish is perfect along side any of the rich and savory small plates or even the tacos!
