Autumn is perhaps the prime time of year for beer. People gather to watch football and chilly weather offers an excuse to curl up and crack a brew. Whether you are an aficionado or just like a beer after a long day, fall offers many options. To save you the trouble, I tested several. Here is my list:
Samuel Adams Oktoberfest
Being in Boston, I had to make sure I included the local macro-brew on this list. Sam’s Oktoberfest is light in flavor but a little bit spicier than your usual lager. It isn’t too expensive and it’s easy to drink which makes it great for hosting your fall get-togethers. If you are looking for a fall beer for everybody, Samuel Adams’ Oktoberfest is an excellent option.

Brooklyn Post Road Pumpkin Ale
Post Road is a light beer with a subtle pumpkin flavor, but the pumpkin is not too overwhelming. Enough of the pumpkin flavor shines through, but it didn’t lose its beer quality. It was as if someone took a regular lager and added just enough pumpkin to make it specific to the season. I recommend this beer to anyone that wants to test out a pumpkin beer but doesn’t want the pumpkin too take away from the beer.

Sierra Nevada Flipside Red IPA
Not everyone enjoys the flavor of Indian Pale Ales. The intensity of the hops can be overwhelming, but Sierra Nevada did well to make sure their IPA had more going on than just strong, bitter hoppy flavor. Flipside Red IPA has some spice to it and a sweet, floral aftertaste. It is more expensive than most six-packs, but if you like IPA’s it is a slightly lighter option that captures the feeling of fall.

Angry Orchard Cinnful Apple
Angry Orchard Cinnful Apple adds a nice twist a typical hard cider. While Cinnful Apple maintains the sweetness and drinkability of Angry Orchard’s hard cider, there is a touch of cinnamon that adds a lot of kick. It is like drinking a spicy soda. They taste great, so be sure not to drink them too fast. The sweetness masks the fact that they do still contain alcohol.

After extensive research (by research I mean sitting on my couch), these are the beers I think you should keep your eyes out for this season. Happy fall drinking!
