Sunday brunch has become a religion in Southern California at this point. That being said, it’s only right for SoCal Spoon chapters to take over one of San Diego’s finest. That’s right, I’m talking about Richard Walker’s Pancake House. I now present some of the most exotic and delectable pancake and breakfast creations any brunch-fiend would bow down to…
1. The German Pancake
At first it may seem confusing considering it looks like some sort of strange taco shell. But don’t get discouraged, there’s much more than what meets the eye. Considering there are instructions directing patrons on how to go about consuming it…
Once you properly follow directions it’s a pleasant surprise of a sort of delicate lemon-y crepe type of consistency. There is nothing comparable to this light and sweet treat.
2. Classic French Toast
Everyone knows you don’t mess with the classics. Thank god Richard Walker’s is keepin’ it real. This cooked gooey and chewy french toast was perfectly complimented by some fresh California produce FTW.
3. Bagel and Lox Eggs Benni
Yea, you read that right. Not only can you feel classy with your lox and bagel, but you can compliment it with some glorious yolk porn. Basically you can’t go wrong with this combination of two brunch classics.
4. Pecan Pancakes
These perfectly nutty and fluffy pancakes lightly dusted with powdered sugary goodness do not disappoint. They are both topped with and chock-full of local pecans, giving you nothing but the best.
5. The Apple Pancake
You know the post-Thanksgiving regret when you continue to eat leftover apple pie for breakfast for a week? Well at Richard Walker’s not only is it condoned, but it’s been perfected. This oversized delight is full of fresh apples, oozing with gooey cinnamon glaze, and baked to perfection. If you’re the type to wake up with a sweet tooth in the morning, this is definitely the way to go.
#SpoonTip: The apple pancake pretty much has it’s own zip code so be sure to share the love with a friend.
That’s all for this week’s Sunday spot! Keep on brunchin’ San Diego. Make sure to check back next week for the next Brunch Spot of the week.
And a special shootout to to Spoon UCI, Spoon SDSU and Spoon UCSD for coming out to celebrate SoCal Spoon chapters and the art of brunch with us!
