Executive Chef, Hyun-Woo Kim, and General Manager, James Yang, are the new sushi and sake team at SONO in downtown Raleigh. The duo previously worked at ÀN Asian Cuisine in Cary before the restaurant closed this past year. SONO opened in 2008, but with Kim and Yang’s expertise and passion for sushi, the restaurant’s personality, menu, and popularity are on the rise. Catering to the diverse clientele of downtown Raleigh, Kim and Yang are updating more than just the food. They plan to serve the freshest ingredients while staying true to traditional cuisine. Kim breaks down a 400-pound tuna for unique sushi and nigiri rolls each week and even incorporates gold leaf and hand-ground wasabi into his dishes. Additionally, Yang has developed a new cocktail menu highlighting classic drinks with sake fusion. The skilled duo is revamping SONO, making it one of the top sushi destinations in Raleigh.
