BurgerFi claims to be leading a “burger revolution.” If that’s the case, then the South University location is sure to catch fire in Ann Arbor – and it’s already building legions of followers. Before I even tried out their food myself, I found a massive line of customers waiting for burgers, fries, shakes and hotdogs.

The menu is filled with creative ways to spice up your classic burger. Try one of the pre-designed burgers, like the (insane-sounding) Breakfast All Day Burger (a natural Angus burger with American cheese, hickory bacon drizzled with maple syrup, a fried egg, hash browns, grilled diced onions and ketchup) or just build your own own. The restaurant offers a lengthy list of toppings and extras to mix and match – garlic mayo, fried eggs, salt-and-vinegar potato chips – get creative. Also, vegetarians and vegans rejoice! Try the Quinoa burger, and don’t forget the chain’s signature (and awesome) BurgerFi sauce.

If that isn’t enough, the sides and desserts are both freakout-worthy. If you’re swooning over the Parmesan cheese and herb fries, then be careful, because you’ll probably faint before the first drop of red velvet milkshake or scoop of custard passes your lips.

Is this place gourmet? No. But if you want a solid bite for your buck, go no further than BurgerFi. In fact, it’s a really good bite for your buck. The meat and toppings taste fresh and well-prepared (not charred to a crisp, not right-off-the-rib raw), and even the bun is thoughtfully assembled, not sliced all the way through to prevent topping-spillage. I may have just joined the burger revolution…
