Kava is all the rage right now. This root, which has traditionally been used to make drinks in the Pacific Islands for hundreds of years, has been popping up in foodie hotspots across the country. Upon consumption, one will find their body to be relaxed, their anxiety to be relieved, and their mental clarity to remain completely intact. The effects have been compared to the best parts of weed, alcohol, and coffee.

If you want to try some, you could go to a kava bar — that is, if you live in Portland, San Francisco, or New York. As for the rest of us, we’re on our own. Luckily, kava root powder can be purchased on Amazon or at your local co-op, which is where I found mine.

Sweet, frothy, creamy, and earthy, this latte is a great beginner drink for anyone who is interested in trying kava.

#SpoonTip: add cocoa powder, espresso, or matcha green tea powder for a twist
