Boston is home to many famous foods, from clam chowder to Boston cream pie. But what many people do not know is that it is also home to some kick-ass donut shops. These donuts will satisfy any craving you have and leave you feeling full and free of guilt.

With numerous flavors to choose from, don’t be afraid to do what I did and sample them all. If you need a pick me up on the way to work or a just a treat for the weekend, these places will do the trick.

1. Kane’s Donuts

Don’t let the lack of parking stop you from visiting this donut shop. They offer a large variety of flavors from cookies and cream to pistachio. Kane’s is also famous for their coffee rolls which are bigger than my head (not kidding).

2. Blackbird Donuts

This small donut shop, located in the South End has definitely won over the hearts of Bostonians. Skip the bagel shop and grab an everything bagel donut from Blackbird instead.

3. Union Square Donuts

Famous for their maple bacon donut, this Somerville hotspot is probably one of the most well-named shops outside Boston. Their sea-salt bourbon caramel is a must-have, but if you’re not a drink in the morning type, you better skip it.

4. Fazenda Cafe

This Jamaica Plain spot has a small donut selection, but the flavors offered are definitely unique. If you’re showing up late to the party, try their peanut butter and jelly donut for a quick lunch.

5. Flour Bakery + Cafe

Only served on Sundays, these vanilla creme-filled donuts are absolutely to die for. If you are brave enough to wait in the never-ending line, you will not regret it. For those who can’t seem to make it out of their bed on lazy Sundays, then make them yourself with this recipe.

6. Donuts With A Difference

You won’t see any funky flavors here, but that doesn’t mean these donuts aren’t just as good. Just in downtown Medford, this shop has made a name for itself serving classic flavors like chocolate and the famous Boston cream. The best part: the owners treat you just like family.

Be sure to stop by here for donut Thursdays. Each week they offer a different unique flavor that will not disappoint. They have a limited number, so make sure you get there early and grab a cup of joe to wake you up.

8. Clear Flour Bakery

I know, this does not look like a donut, but I can assure you it is. Famous for its currant donut, Clear Flour is definitely not your average donut shop.
