I love Twitter. It can be useful, funny and informational, all at the same time. Some food accounts are more serious about food than others, and each account has a different atmosphere to their Twitter feeds. These are the best original accounts, whether the accounts are funny, clever, news-related or informational.

Yes, I’ve written about Bon Appetit Magazine’s Twitter account before. Yes, I still think it’s charming and witty. It’s punny, informative and there’s some drool-worthy photography featured on the account. I’d say that’s a win-win-win situation.

2. @NatGeoFood

Think National Geographic, but specifically for food. It makes science and history interesting by pairing it with your favorite foods. Before you know it, you’ll be a genius.

3. @TwitterFood

Apparently, Twitter has its own food account. This compiles and retweets the best food accounts on Twitter, so you don’t have to follow multiple accounts. Thanks for making our lives easier once again, Twitter.

4. @Fooddotcom

Food.com posts only recipes, which is really handy if you’re struggling to come up with a dinner idea. The Twitter account simply posts those recipes with a photo for you to dream about throughout the day.

5. @newfoodeconomy

Food and business? Together? This account helps restaurants, food publications and people looking for jobs in the food industry by posting content on the business side of food.

6. @bflay (Bobby Flay)

So, my love for Bobby Flay has maybe turned into an obsession. Even if you don’t have a love for Bobby Flay, he lists some great resources for food knowledge and sometimes talks about things other than the food scene, which is a good break. (See Kimmy Schmidt reference, above.) Bonus: He was just named editor-in-chief of Bon Appetit Magazine, which makes my obsession somewhat unhealthy.

7. @RealCarrotFacts

You know, I’m not entirely sure how this account can be as popular as it is, but the random and clever tweets it produces can be entertaining. Warning: do not follow if you are looking for grammatically correct tweets.

8. @NYTFood

Do you like the New York Times? Then you’ll enjoy this Twitter account. It’s the same quality of articles, just focused on food. This account mainly posts recipes and not much other food content.

9. @CivilEats

Civil Eats describes itself as the “daily news source for critical thought about the food system.” More than the actual food, this account focuses on the issues around the food system. It’s a little more news-y than other food accounts, which is cool if you’re into that.

10. @Seriouseats

Serious Eats has a combination of recipes, scientific discoveries and health information. If you’re looking for all-around food coverage, this account is the way to go.

11. @RealCapnCrunch

I’m still confused as to why Captain Crunch has such a funny Twitter account, but it does. If you need inspiration from a cartoon naval captain of the S.S. Guppy (yes, that’s his ship’s name), this is the account for you.

12. @iowagirleats (Kristin Porter)

Her Twitter handle has the word “Iowa” in it, but the account does not pertain to only Iowans. She often posts comfort food revised to be a little bit healthier, and she posts gluten-free recipes that are still hearty. You’ll find yourself admiring her passion, skills and adorable son.

13. @spoonuniversity

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a shameless plug. Spoon University has a combination of recipes, easy #spoontips and relatable tweets that will help you through day-to-day life.
