Capouya
Hi, my name is Ben Capouya. Here are a few things about myself.
Food dominates my livelihood. My passion for food started in my mom's predominately southern kitchen at home, helping her prepare everything from gumbo to jambalaya. While growing up, we cooked a lot at the house, but we also loved to go out and try restaurants in the Los Angeles area where I grew up. My family constantly pushed me to try new things and expand my palate. As I tried more things, I began to love eating more types of cuisine, which led me to become a deeply devout restaurant aficionado.
I also love to be active, which is convenient considering how much food I like to chew and swallow on a daily basis. At W&L, I am a member of the baseball team. I am one of the four catchers on the team. The outdoors is also a love of mine. When I can, I like to go on hikes or go fishing in the streams that surround Lexington.
Social issues also have a place in my daily train of thought. I am a poverty and human capabilities minor, or simply, a member of the shepherd program on campus. I also frequently volunteer at campus kitchen, where I am a member of the leadership team. My role, mostly, is to help manage the inventory of food that we get from a variety of places and figure out what we should cook for the recipient agencies that we serve. I also lead cooking shifts, where my vision of the food I planned to make becomes a reality.
Last, but not least, is music. I love music. All types of music. Music at parties, music at home, music at restaurants. Getting out to concerts is something I love to do, especially concerts with food trucks. I will challenge anyone to a match of just dance.
