- 6 large apples
- 1/3 cup raw sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon allspice
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Peel, core, and dice up the apples. Try using sweeter-tasting apples like Gala or Honeycrisp.
Place the apples in a crockpot and mix in the rest of the ingredients. Cover and cook on high for 5 hours, stirring halfway through, until the apples are tender and dark brown (caramelized).
Pour the mixture into a blender and puree for 1 minute until smooth.
Pour the mixture back into the crockpot and cook on high uncovered for 2 hours until the mixture has thickened.
Spread the apple butter on toast, biscuits or whatever your heart desires. This will last up to 2 months stored in a closed container in the fridge.
