Move over Waffle Shop, there’s a new State College waffle favorite in town.

Earlier this semester, a new breakfast place popped onto the downtown State College scene, facing some tough rivals such as the Waffle Shop, Irving’s and Bagel Crust. I’m here to tell you why Sadie’s is here to stay.

Upon arriving, I was immediately greeted by friendly staff and a surprisingly cozy atmosphere. And let me tell you, there are way more than waffles at Sadie’s. I was impressed by their wide selection of breakfast sandwiches, hot drinks and, a personal favorite of mine, pastries.

Naturally, since Sadie’s has “waffle” in its name, my friend and I who visited both ordered waffles. An employee was kind enough to explain to me that the waffles were dough-based instead of batter-based, like traditional waffles are made. This means that their waffles are thicker and more filling, making them the ultimate hangover cure.

Upon receiving the waffles, I was at first disappointed by their size. They looked very small in comparison to waffles I have received from other places, but once I started eating them I understood why. The dough-based waffles were extremely filling so the size was extremely reasonable. Anything bigger would’ve been too much.

Not to mention, they were delicious.

Filling, sweet and cheap.  Seriously, only $2.95 for a waffle. It’s a great choice for college kids on a budget and allows us to indulge in a satisfying breakfast.

All in all, my experience at Sadie’s Gourmet Waffles was an overwhelmingly positive one and I would definitely recommend it to a friend. Watch out, Waffle Shop.
