It seems like every day, new restaurants are popping up in Tuscaloosa. In a time where chain restaurants are dominating the food scene, it is easy to forget about the awesome locally owned restaurants that we have here. I have compiled a list of a few of my favorite spots that you should keep in mind next time you're going out to eat.

Lets get started:

T-Town Cafe

Located right off The University of Alabama's campus, on the corner of Hackberry and 14th Street, T-Town Cafe is the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat for breakfast or lunch. Open from 6am-3pm, T-Town Cafe offers an extensive menu, so there is a dish for everyone! In addition to offering the classic soups, salads, and sandwiches, T-Town Cafe also has traditional Southern food on their menu. My personal favorite item on the menu is the grilled chicken sandwich, which is seasoned perfectly and always juicy!

Edgar's Bakery

I discovered Edgar's during finals week last semester, it's the perfect escape from the typical Starbucks and Gorgas Library chaos that ensues during that time of year. With the free Wi-Fi, full bakery and restaurant, as well as a variety of coffee options, Edgar's truly has it all. Edgar's is located on McFarland, just over the bridge.

Archibald and Woodrow's BBQ

Archibald's has been owned and operated by the same family since it opened in 1962 and is a known hangout of the late great Paul "Bear" Bryant. Their menu offers the traditional barbecue fare, which is a variety of meats and sides. Archibald's is a well known spot among the Tuscaloosa locals but is still pretty low key to students and those new to the area. Archibald's is a must for rib fans, as they are best known for their superior offerings that you can buy in very large quantities. Archibald's is a must for all the BBQ fans out there, as well as people looking for a classic Tuscaloosa food experience.

Billy's Sports Grill

Billy's is found in downtown Northport, just outside of Tuscaloosa but is still a short drive away. Billy's is a classic "American" restaurant, but they have an incredibly diverse menu that can satisfy anyone. From nachos, to wings, to salads and fish, Billy's has a little bit of everything. My personal favorite's are the onion rings and the wings, but you can never go wrong with the chicken salad. Billy's also offers free delivery so if you aren't in the mood to go out, give them a call and place an order.

These are only a few of the great restaurants Tuscaloosa has to offer, so after you have checked these out, keep exploring! Drive around and keep your eye out for places that sound interesting, you won't be disappointed. After you've eaten, make sure to check out some of the awesome bars Tuscaloosa has to offer.

Happy eating!
