Located in the heart of the Barmuda is First National Taphouse, a relatively newer restaurant and tap house that’s been bringing an old part of Eugene back to life. Built in 1866, the historic brick building used to be The First National Bank of Eugene. Today it’s a charming and stylish place to pursue a crafty brew or chase after a seductive spirit, all the while going steady with a saucy meal. (Go with me on this, I’m romancing.)

There are many fish in the sea, and the tap list at First National is no exception. There’s a rotating list of 28 different craft beers, so go ahead and flirt a little. If you fancy something more exotic, steal a couple looks at the whiskey, wine and spirits available. You won’t be disappointed. After all, sometimes you have to try new things to find out what you’re into and what you’re not. Am I right?

When you’re ready to get serious and take things to the next level, feast your eyes on the menu. Between the delicious starters, hearty sandwiches, specialty entrees and desserts, you’re bound to find your culinary match. My last affair was with a Bossy Chicken Sandwich, served open face on sourdough with house-smoked bacon, jalapeno aioli, field greens, tomato, pepper jack cheese and an egg sunny side up. The relationship didn’t last long, but it was passionate and full of life. No regrets.

Inside the same building and connected to the restaurant is the Bijou Metro theatre, an independent cinema that features various indie films, art films, classic movies, documentaries and more. Take this opportunity to show how cultured you are by shaking up the whole dinner and a movie thing. It might actually win you some points.

Considering the location, the great food and drinks, and the proximity to the Bijou, I’d say First National Taphouse is all around a perfect place for a simple yet sophisticated date night. The atmosphere is quirky and unique, casual but hip, and has just the right amount of class. There’s live folk music and bluegrass every Thursday night, and there are some seriously appetizing happy hour specials you’ll have to check out for yourself.

Now that you two have been introduced, it’s up to you to finish the job. Don’t be afraid to stick your neck out and make the first move. Life rewards action.

Cheers.
