It all started in Oaxaca, Mexico but Taza made their one and only home in Boston, MA. Unlike many chocolate factories, Taza makes minimally processed stone ground chocolate with bold flavor and unique texture. I took a tour of Taza Chocolate’s factory and learned not only how good the chocolate is, but the difference in the processes and the quality of ingredients they use.

Hearing about how the company started as well as how the chocolate is made was the expected part of the tour, but the best parts of the tour were sensory experience. At each stop on the tour, there’s a new product to sample while the smell of chocolate circles your nose.

Taza chocolate is almost entirely dark chocolate and the texture feels grainier and more melt-in-your-mouth than most chocolate bars. With the continually growing line of chocolate products Taza makes something for all types of chocolate lovers.

From the stone ground chocolate bars for the real dark chocolate lovers to cacao nibs to top off the perfect yogurt parfait, Taza’s factory produces each product in their small Somerville location and ships it nationwide.
