I know it's hard to imagine that New York City, a place filled with block after block of charming restaurants, could be missing something. And it was, until Banter came along. A riff on the Australian coffee trend currently proliferating NYC, Banter brings a sense of community to the dining experience. In other words, they created the perfect place for both a flat white and witty conversation with a friend.

Having dined at Banter on several occasions, I can officially say it is the café New York City needs. By uniting aesthetically pleasing beverages with healthily indulgent meals, Banter has truly become more than a neighborhood coffee shop.

With the tagline "Your local...," Banter feels exactly like that. Its space feels homey, with benches outside that are for more than just waiting for a table. People have full on conversations and meals out there, giving Banter the aura that it truly is the cornerstone of its Greenwich Village neighborhood.

The inside is just as inviting as the outside. Almost every table has a perfect view of the barista bar, so you can see exactly how your coffee of choice is made. Every table is adorned with a slightly different bouquet, hammering home the "small neighborhood feel" synonymous with the café.

The Brunch

There's two typical scenarios you'll find yourself in at Banter: catching up with friends over brunch or stopping for a quick lunch in between errands. Luckily for you, their menu satisfies all. Yes, you can order any of these items at all points during the day. But, do eggs really taste the same if you eat them past noon?

Obviously, something titled the Golden Folded Eggs has a certain reputation to defend. Luckily, it does not disappoint. The prosciutto (as always) pairs well with the eggs, blending Italian staples with your standby breakfast. For the peak brunch experience, add toast. It's the perfect tool for dipping, scooping, and making an impromptu breakfast sandwich.

If you're anything like me, you're probably tired of avocado toast. But that doesn't mean I hate toast (in fact, I love it). The Sweet Potato Smash quenches my insatiable thirst for Instagrammable super-foods. Unlike its green brother, this toast is actually filling. Topped with egg and goat cheese, it might just be my favorite item on the menu.

The Lunch

During the lunchtime rush, Banter provides a break from whatever responsibility you've been procrastinating. Its invitingly warm atmosphere and menu composed of eclectic salads and sandwiches will practically beckon you off the street.

Surprise, surprise. One of the best fried chicken sandwiches in Manhattan comes from an Australian cafe. The chicken has a crunchy texture with a tender inside, making it rival even the most Southern of NYC restaurants. Plus, the sweet potato fries are the perfect side dish.

The Greens Salad is the ultimate lunchtime power move. With edamame and salmon, it's bound to give you enough energy to make it to your mid-day snack.

The Bottom Line

Banter is a well-needed change of pace. With its welcoming vibe and versatile menu, it's bound to become a fixture in your daily life.
