In college, one of the most fun things to do is going out to dinner with friends. However, sometimes it can be tricky finding a new and different restaurant that has amazing food and a fun atmosphere. Depending on what kind of group dinner you’re planning, here’s a guide to picking the perfect place.

1. Savor Gastropub

Savor is the perfect place to have an intimate special occasion or birthday dinner. This all-glass restaurant is embellished with string lights and contemporary décor, giving off a dreamy, elegant feel.

Savor also has delicious food, my favorite being the lobster puff appetizer and the shrimp and grits entrée. Their extensive drink menu includes a Prickly Pear Rita, a Peanut Butter Cup Cocktail, and a Baked Apple Mule, to name a few. With a wide variety of unique food and drinks, Savor is aways great for an unforgettable brunch, lunch, or dinner.

2. Sushi Axiom

Sushi Axiom is one of the best sushi places to get all dressed up and fancy to enjoy the freshest sushi in Dallas. This sleek sushi bar and restaurant has two locations (Lower Greenville & Addison), making it a convenient go-to for that special dinner with your closest friends and family.

The dark lighting and Asian-inspired design gives an authentic feel that is hard to match. Sushi Axiom has some of the best raw sashimi in Dallas, as well as more classic favorites like the Tuna Tower, the Henderson roll, and the Axiom roll. The best way to top off some tasty sushi is with their fun drinks, like the famous Appletini.

3. Standard Pour

When you want to have a fun and casual dinner or brunch with a big group of friends, Standard Pour (located in the upbeat and happening Uptown Dallas) is the place to be. With a chill and down to earth feel, paired with fancy versions of traditional bar food, this restaurant is guaranteed to satisfy.

All the food is amazing, but the fish and chips entrée and mac and cheese side are a must-try. Standard Pour’s claim to fame is their giant Moscow Mule for 10 to share, which is a fun and unique experience sure to bring you back again and again.

4. HG Sply Co.

HG Sply Co. is a great place to have a big group for a semi-fancy dinner on a nice Dallas night overlooking the city (while enjoying unique and tasty food). HG claims to serve “simple clean food, classic drinks, and humble hospitality,” and this couldn’t be more true.

Not only is their relaxed atmosphere a good place to unwind, but their food is out of this world. Their meals are 100% all-natural and follows the Paleo diet, but they don’t lack on flavor and variety; you won’t even realize that you’re eating healthy.

The best place to have a big group here is on the roof top that is decorated with string lights, brick fireplaces, and long casual tables. The rooftop serves small plates for the table as well as killer drinks (my favorite being the Moscow mule).

The small plates and appetizers range from loaded short rib nachos to vegan queso, and both will be cleaned off by your table before you have a chance to order round two.

If you choose to have a smaller group, head down to the first floor and you won’t be disappointed. HG Sply Co. is an all-around success, and is sure to set the mood for any brunch, lunch, or dinner.

5. Nick & Sam’s Steakhouse

Nick and Sam’s is perfect for that big party on the fancier side of things. The elegant décor give it a classy feel, making it perfect for special group or pre-formal dinners. This fancy steakhouse is famous for serving some of the best steaks in Dallas, which could not be more true.

For those less carnivorous eaters, there are plenty of filling salads and appetizers (the best being Nick and Sam’s chopped salad with lobster, jumbo crab cakes, and fresh grilled salmon).

Although it may be hard after a hearty dinner like this one, it’s important to save room for one of the heavenly desserts. There are many options, so it may be hard to choose, but you can’t go wrong with the 7-layer cake, pumpkin pie, or their fancy take on cotton candy.

6. Dakota’s Restaurant

Dakota’s is located in Uptown in Lincoln Plaza and it is one of the coolest places to have a big fancy formal dinner while also having a unique experience. Dakota’s is located underground and has a climate-controlled patio accompanied by a running waterfall, setting a tranquil and lavish aura.

For big groups, they have a side area with two long tables to fit your large party. The classy, romantic atmosphere is something that can’t be beat, and the amazing food is just the cherry on top.

The go-to would have to be their to-die-for steaks, but if you’re looking for something on the lighter side, the Atlantic salmon entrée and creamed spinach side are a must-try. Pair this incredible meal with their delicious Southwest Strawberry Sour.

Even though you will probably not have room left for dessert, make room for the white chocolate cheesecake or key lime pie and you won’t regret it.

7. Fernando’s

Fernando’s is a great place to have your formal or girl’s night dinner because of the fun yet classy atmosphere. This Mexican-inspired restaurant has some of the tastiest (and strongest) margaritas, and their queso is out of this world —which should be reason enough to make this your next group dinner.

It’s located right next to Villa-O and Rio Room, making it super convenient and the perfect start to any night. There is also a patio with lights and an awesome view that’s perfect for a night when the weather is nice.
