Here in Charleston, there are plenty of places to get a delicious breakfast. We all wish we could sit down and have some mimosas at places like Jack’s or Caviar & Bananas before class, but unfortunately there is the issue of time. Instead of your usual breakfast of a granola bar as you run out the door, try some of these places and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

1. Angel’s Food Services

When you look at Angel’s menu, at first glance it just looks like they only have hot dogs and hamburgers, but let me be the first to tell you that it is more than that. Their breakfast staples include chicken biscuits and sausage, egg, and cheese croissants served until noon. The sausage, egg, and cheese croissant is pictured above and it is as delicious as it is pretty.

My personal breakfast favorite is the chicken biscuit (check out that feature photo). Of course you could be basic and get one from Chick-fil-A, but they only serve breakfast until 10:30. Angel’s sells these fluffy masterpieces for the college-friendly price of $2. Not only is the biscuit affordable, it is quick and easy to eat as you are trying to stuff your face 2 minutes before your next class.

2. Charlie’s Grocery

Charlie’s may look like a typical convenience store from the outside, but what you probably didn’t know is that they have some dank breakfast sandwiches on the inside. They have everything from the humble bacon, egg, and cheese to a masterpiece known as the colossal (pictured above). Their breakfast sandwiches are the opposite of dainty and they do not hold back when it comes to bacon; need I say more?

All of their breakfast sandwiches are served on a hefty bun that stands up to the amount of ingredients on it. With a sandwich like the colossal, this structure is especially important. The colossal is packed with eggs, bacon, cheese, hash browns, and a chicken tender to top it all off. If the colossal doesn’t cure your hangover on the way to class, I don’t know what will.

3. Taco Spot

Taco Spot is the place to go for your early morning burrito cravings (don’t try to fight them). They have a power-hour from 10 to 10:30 am where the breakfast burritos are $5 and the tacos are $2. As you can see, the burrito is a generous size, so $5 is a major score.

To spice up your taco or burrito, you have your choice of mild, hot, or tomatillo salsa. The tacos and burritos come packed with eggs, potatoes, and you can add either bacon or sausage. It is all of your favorite parts of breakfast snuggled by a warm tortilla, so it is perfect for eating on the way to class.

4. Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit

Callie’s is the place to go when you are craving anything on a biscuit. Callie’s biscuits are so good that they were featured on the Cooking Channel show Unique Sweets. Callie’s is the perfect place to go before class because they are open at 8 am and they are usually not crowded during the week.

Callie’s has a biscuit for your sweet or savory breakfast needs. If you are feeling savory, go for the classic biscuit filled with country ham or black pepper bacon. If you are feeling something sweet, go for the blueberry or cinnamon biscuit. These biscuits come at the small price of $4 for 2 biscuits. However, if you are feeling ambitious you can get 3 biscuits for $5.

5. Glazed Gourmet

If you are struggling to find a place that is open as you drag yourself to your 8 am, Glazed Gourmet is the answer to all your problems. They are open from 7 am until they sell out from Tuesday to Friday.

#SpoonTip Get there early before other people snatch up the good donuts.

Glazed specializes in unique flavors of donuts. Don’t worry, you can still get a classic glazed if you are like me and go with what you know. If you are feeling adventurous on the way to class, you can try unique flavors like green tea and sesame. Whatever flavor you try, it will make the walk to class much less painful.
