What’s better than a classic grilled cheese and tomato soup combo from your mom? A rainbow grilled cheese. This epic Instagram sensation inspired us to try it out and show you how you can make one too. The premise is simple: melt the cheese, add the food coloring, and make the magic happen with that final gratifying cheese pull. We’d highly suggest having your camera ready.
Rainbow Grilled Cheese
- Prep Time:10 minutes
- Cook Time:5 minutes
- Total Time:15 minutes
- 1 cup cheese (shredded)
- 1 tablespoon lavender
- 1 tablespoon sundried tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon basil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Food coloring (assorted colors)
- White bread
Start by separating the cheese into four bowls (1/4 cup in each bowl).
Add food coloring and condiments to each bowl and combine to achieve desired color (basil + green food coloring, lavender + purple food coloring, sundried tomatoes + red food coloring).
Butter both slices of bread on one side, and toast one slice in a pan over medium heat.
Layer the 1/4 cup of white cheese, then arrange colors in whatever pattern you desire.
Once cheese is starting to melt, add the second slice of bread and flip. Cook until golden, about 2 minutes.
Slice, Instagram, and enjoy.
