Bathing suit season may be upon us, yet according to David Zinczenko and Peter Moore there is no need to fret. According to the authors of The 8-Hour Diet: Watch the Pounds Disappear Without Watching What You Eat!, as long as you eat in an 8-hour window and fast for the remaining 16 hours of the day, you will lose up to ten pounds in a week. This diet keeps in mind that our bodies need time to “reset” in order to process nutrients, burn fat for energy and flush out toxins effectively. It pushes our mitochondria, the power source of cells and the metabolism, to fire-up.

The diet is pretty lax, as you can choose any 8-hour window during the day. You are allowed to drink water, coffee and tea during your fasting period, just not eat; yet, you can eat whatever you want during the 8 hours, as long as you don’t binge. This diet is said to work even if you stick to it merely three days a week. There are also additional health benefits to this diet: studies have shown that fasting can lower your risk of diabetes, heart disease and dementia.

This diet du jour is all the rage with celebrities (take note of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s hot bod and Hugh Jackman’s abs). Jackman swears this meal plan was the key to bulking up for his newest Wolverine role. Perhaps we’ve found a new challenge for the summer.
