It's almost the end of summer, but you still have time to strip down before the temp gets cool again (metaphorically, at least). Taco Bell's new Naked Egg taco is coming out at the end of the month, and it's going back to the basics with a fried egg taco shell. Well, maybe that's not so #basic after all.

Here is everything you need to know about this funky new breakfast taco that will probably save lives (OK, maybe dramatic, but it could probs cure your next hangover).

WTF Is a Naked Egg Taco?

The brand new Naked Egg Taco has all the makings of a classic breakfast taco (crispy potatoes, cheese, and either bacon or sausage) with a fun twist: a fried egg shell. This is obviously not the first time that Taco Bell has tried to reinvent the shell game (who can forget the Double Decker or the Naked Chicken Chalupa), but I think that this might be their most creative.

“Shell innovation is at the core of where we experiment," Liz Matthews, Chief Food Innovation Officer at Taco Bell Corp, said in a press release.

This innovation is also being served at a great cost (only $1.99 a la carte).

No word yet on whether this fried egg will be accompanied with the #yolkporn your insta feed loves, but I'm kind of hoping not, because that would be super hard to eat. I mean, I've already come to terms that I will have egg on my hands after eating this, but I'm not about dropping eggs on my lap on the way home from the drive-thru.

Why Is This Necessary?

At first, I was kind of ambivalent about the Naked Egg Taco. I mean, I love eggs as much as the next girl, but I could not see it in my Taco Bell experience. But then it hit me: Taco Bell's new  Naked Egg Tacos are the perfect hangover meal.

Just think about it. You've got eggs combined with greasy meat and cheese, which I like to think will help soak up all that excess alc, and the taco format will make this easier to eat while you're sitting sideways in bed editing pics from the night before. The best part is, you can head over to Taco Bell to pick up this bad boy instead of attempting to fry up some eggs, potatoes, and cheese while your head is throbbing louder than after the Coldplay concert you couldn't get tickets to.

So when I said this taco will save lives, I am not kidding.

The taco was originally tested in Flint, Michigan back in April, but the official nation-wide release date of Taco Bell's Naked Egg Taco is not until August 31. However, you might be able to get your hands on it earlier. Taco Bell is hosting a "Bell + Breakfast" event in various cities to help ring in the new taco starting on August 17 in NYC and continuing in Laguna Beach (August 25), Austin (August 26), and Chicago (August 27). You can reserve a table for any of these events on OpenTable (because apparently Taco Bell is now bougie af).

So basically, Taco Bell's new Naked Egg Taco seems like a total game changer. I'm going to try eating one of these babies to get my mind and body back on track after a night out. And of course, add a side of hashbrowns or Cinnabon Delights©.
