'Tis the season! The store windows are decked out in a spectacular winter fashion and the lights are twinkling bright around town. Everyone's favorite coffee shops are brewing up holiday treats with our favorite seasonal flavors. But what's a non-coffee, latte-loving person to do when all those seasonal drinks have a shot of espresso in them? Matcha is the answer, and while most coffee shops don't include the caffeinated green tea powder on their signature list, it doesn't mean it's not worth giving a try.

Here are three holiday matcha lattes you can easily order at your local coffee spot or whip up at home. The first is the most classic flavor during the holiday season, as you will spot the cooling red and white candy everywhere from sprinkled on cookies to adorning holiday trees. Pick yourself up a peppermint syrup to mix into your matcha latte.

Peppermint Bliss

    Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • 8-12 oz. milk any kind
  • 2 pumps peppermint syrup

    Heat up your milk. If you have a steamer, use that to get a nice layer of foam. If not, I use a milk frother at home that works great.

  • Step 2

    Add 2 pumps of your peppermint syrup to your cup and pour over heated milk. Stir to combine.

    Stir in your matcha powder until dissolved.

  • Step 4

    For fun, add some crushed peppermint candy as a garnish!

White chocolate lover? Make the caffeinated hot chocolate of your dreams by adding some white (or dark) chocolate to your matcha latte. Adding some amaretto syrup makes for a treat that will taste like your favorite Christmas cookie (or this white chocolate matcha cookie). Go ahead and add that whip.

  • 1-2 pumps any additional syrups

    Add white chocolate sauce and any additional syrups to your cup and pour in heated milk. Stir to combine.

    Stir matcha in to combine.

  • Step 4

    For optional garnish, top it with whip cream and drizzle on some of that sauce!

We can't forget about eggnog this time of year. Sure, it's best spiked with some cheap liquor, but that's not going to fly when you're up late studying. Get an eggnog milk and steam it up with your matcha powder.
