Drinking in college can pretty much be summed up as taking shots of cheap liquor chased by the Coca-Cola that's been sitting in the fridge for three days. We're not here to swirl around a glass of wine and sip it until slightly tipsy. We pregame our pregame with shots, then go to the pregame to take more shots, so that when we finally arrive to the party, we don't have to drink our body weight in Natty Ice or Skol.

Sadly, this way of drinking effects both your outwardly physical appearance—the Freshman 15 CAN happen to you—and the overall wellness of your body. When I heard of Project Juice's Wellness Shots, I became curious. This line of drinks consist of shots of juice that replenish your body in different ways. Instead of suffering through a 3-day juice cleanse, you take a shot. Count me in.

Project Juice's Wellness Shots come in a variety of flavors, all with different purposes. Keep in mind that the shots are potent because so many nutrients are packed in a tiny bottle. Here are the flavors I tried.

D-Tox

With the unhealthy lifestyle I live in college, a detox is exactly what I need. The best part? All the ingredients are sweet and make this juice shot pretty delicious. You won't have to use a chaser with this one.

Pineapple: Fights inflammation.

Coconut water: Hydrates and balances electrolytes.

Mint: Stimulates digestion.

Green apple: Great source of both minerals and antioxidants.

Chlorophyll water: Rich in oxygen for a quick energy boost.

Immunity

As the name suggests, this wellness shot is great for your immune system. Warning: The cayenne pepper makes this shot really spicy. Have a glass of water near you after downing this flavor.

Orange: High in Vitamin C, which helps to fight off sickness.

Grapefruit: Contains enzymes for overall health.

Lemon: Stimulates digestion and increases circulation.

Ginger: Contains purifying properties.

Cayenne: Boosts metabolism and alleviates congestion.

Turmeric Tonic

This flavor shot will be your best friend if you have any joint pain, skin irritations or just want a daily wellness boost. Although the turmeric created a bitter flavor, the benefits of this shot far outweigh the taste.

Pineapple: Fights inflammation and helps digestion.

Turmeric: Stimulates metabolism and helps flush out toxins.

Aloe: Rich in amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

Ginger: Helps fight illness and bacteria.

Chamomile: Offers calming and soothing properties that will make your skin glow.

Immune Boost

College takes a huge toll on your immune system. When you're constantly surrounded by other people, you're pretty much always surrounded by germs. Take this shot when you're feeling stressed out when everyone in your dorm is sick, or when you're worn out. Warning: the cayenne pepper is back. Get some water ready.

Orange: Vitamin C will help boost immunity levels, while also offering a touch of sweetness.

Lemon:  High in Vitamin C to support your immune system.

Ginger: Fights against illness and bacteria.

Cayenne: Packed with antioxidants .

Echinacea: Properties in echinacea help stimulate and support the immune system.

Reishi Mushroom: This mushroom is an anti-inflammatory that

improves your immunity.

Tummy Tonic

This flavor aids digestion by helping with issues like constipation and bloating. Perfect for the post-Thanksgiving feast that never fails to leave you with a bloated stomach and a major food coma

Apple: Packed with minerals and antioxidants.

Aloe: Balances digestive system and has soothing properties.

Ginger: Alleviates nausea and reduces inflammation.

Apple Cider Vinegar: Stimulates digestion and aids the digestive process.

Bacillus Coagulans GBI-30, 6036: Promotes the growth of good bacteria.

Liver Flush

Ironically, you're taking a shot of something that helps your liver instead of destroying it. A liver flush is something almost every college student so desperately needs. The benefits of this flavor are almost too good to be true. However, it does contain the ever-so-spicy cayenne pepper.

Grapefruit: Helps remove toxic compounds from the liver.

Beet: Improves blood flow to support a detox.

Aloe: Aids in detoxing the liver.

Milk Thistle: Protects liver from the effects of alcohol.

Burdock Root: Helps remove waste and detox.

Cayenne: For this flavor, the cayenne increases blood flow while also reducing the formation of liver scar tissue.

The Price

With a minimum of 15 shots, you can purchase these healthy juices for $75. Additionally, you can purchase a smaller quantity if you order a Custom Juice Pack that includes Project Juice's cold-pressed juice. To a college student, $75 is costly. However, each shot (if you purchase 15) averages out to $5. So, skip the daily, costly Starbucks and take a Project Juice's Wellness Shots instead.

Overall

I love the idea of taking a small shot of nutrients to help restore my wellness and health. I truly felt great afterwards (except for when my mouth was on fire from the cayenne pepper). The range of flavors allows you to choose a product personalized to your own health needs.

If the sound of a shot doesn't sound too appealing, Project Juice recently came out with a product called Ugly and Awesome. This regular sized juice is made up of imperfect fruits and vegetables that are usually thrown away for not looking aesthetically pleasing.

Ugly and Awesome is a great way to support the environment by reducing food waste, while also providing a refreshing beverage with ingredients like apple, cucumber, ginger, strawberry and bok choy.

Basically, Project Juice is a unique and innovative brand that aims to enhance well being, while also creating products that are sustainable, nutrient-dense, and delicious. For a quick, nutritious pick-me-up, try Project Juice's Wellness Shots. Your body will thank you.
