Quinoa Ka-Pow!

I love chocolate, who doesn't?! But quinoa I'm so-so about. After seeing a quinoa chocolate bar I was enticed to try it. Since quinoa is often hailed as a superfood I thought there would be no harm done by sneaking it into a chocolate treat. Though, I may have been wrong.

Initial Reactions:

The chocolate smelled delicious, this bar had a deep and distinctive scent as soon as I unwrapped it. I could see through the chocolate a few grains of quinoa but nothing too great. Overall the bar was clearly more chocolate than quinoa, which would be fine if there was at least enough quinoa...

The Taste Test:

When I cracked into the bar the quinoa was clearly sparse. But I reckon its because the chocolate is good and the quinoa is not. The chocolate was smooth and creamy, just rich enough for my liking. But the quinoa was a stark contrast. The little beads sat in the chocolate and provided a crunch, yes, but a pleasant crunch, no.

My Thoughts:

The chocolate was delicious but the quinoa inside of it was not. The quinoa tasted like an uncooked piece of the grain, it was hard and gritty in my mouth. Instead of melting into the chocolate bites it remained in my mouth hard to chew and swallow.

I was excited to try this bar because I love chocolate with a crunch. Give me a Hershey Krackel, or a Nestle Crunch any day but crunchy quinoa chocolate... no thank you.

Try it for yourself!

I let my friends try some of this bar and they had mixed reviews. Some agreed that the quinoa was a little gritty while others believed it provided just enough crunch. But all agreed the chocolate itself was delicious.

So, I can't generalize all quinoa chocolate bars as unworthy of consumption, considering I have only tried one, but for now I'm going to stick to chocolate without the addition of quinoa.
