Your guests should feel like they’re on summer vacation when they step into the room. Cheap decorations and big inflatables are an easy way to create the right mood. Put pool noodles and beach toys everywhere. If you can find an outdoor umbrella, drag it in and set it up by your bar.

Think tropical flavors, like pineapple, coconut, berry, or citrus. Lemonade and iced tea are staples, but any fruit juice can be made into a cocktail. If you have time, make a batch of sangria and serve it in mason jars. Colorful drink umbrellas or citrus garnishes are another easy way to turn any beverage into a poolside treat. Check out these boozy cups of sunshine for more inspiration.

Chips with salsa and guacamole are backyard favorites, so find out here how to make perfect guac. Fresh fruit is also a refreshing snack. If you’re not into much preparation, keep a cooler of popsicles and ice cream sandwiches for sweet treats.

Keep the island theme going with some Bob Marley and reggae or Kygo and tropical house tunes. Your guests should feel transported to a remote island when they close their eyes. If you’re going for the summer festival feel, make a playlist out of the Coachella lineup and get people hyped early.
