As a college student who eats way more pizza and Easy Mac than I'd like to admit, the thought of eating organic, fresh produce is tempting—but it seems impossible. Between classes, studying, and socializing, I just don't have the time to take a bus to the nearest Kroger. Because of this, I was beyond excited when I heard about Green Bean Delivery and their new mobile app.

What is Green Bean Delivery?

Green Bean Delivery, started in 2007, aims to make sustainable, healthy foods more available through a convenient delivery service. The added bonus? All of the products sold are bought from local farmers and artisans which is an awesome (and easy) way to support the Bloomington community.

Their website offers hundreds of groceries—everything from grass-fed beef to freshly-baked bread and locally-sourced produce—with free delivery in Bloomington. That's more than I can say for the cheesy bread I get delivered every weekend.

The New Mobile App

Released on April 11th, Green Bean Delivery's free mobile app—called GreenBEAN—is available for iOS and Android. The app is a simple way for IU students to order healthy groceries. Each product on the app includes a detailed list of ingredients, allergy information, and a description of where the product is made.

As if it couldn't get any better, Green Bean Delivery will donate one pound of produce to a local food bank for every app downloaded from now until May 1st. Delicious and supportive.

My Thoughts

I should start by saying that technology and I are not friends—I avoid using it as much as possible. That being said, I would totally choose the GreenBEAN app over going off campus for groceries. The app is very user-friendly, has tons of pictures, and a huge selection of products.

I was surprised by how affordable most of the grocery options are, and I would definitely recommend the app to anyone with food allergies or dietary restrictions.

It's clear that Green Bean Delivery is committed to sustainability and health, which is something that I can definitely get behind. Whether you're annoyed with trekking off-campus to go grocery shopping or just looking for a simple way to have a more balanced diet, the GreenBEAN app is definitely worth checking out.
