This summer, P.S. & Co., an “organic, gluten free, vegan, kosher parve café” opened up near Rittenhouse Square on 17th and Locust. After one visit, I couldn’t help but notice that it’s strikingly similar to Pure Fare, which has two established locations near campus —one on 21st, right over the Walnut Street Bridge, and one at 16th and South— and is also set to take the place of former Einstein’s bagels in Houston Hall. Here’s a comparison of the two so when you decide to be healthy for that one week you’re not wasting your time at the wrong place.

Best Atmosphere: P.S. & Co., hands down. It has more casual seating, a prettier ambiance and a dining room in the back.

Most Convenient: Pure Fare. It has two locations, and both are much closer to campus. If you’re looking for a post Flywheel snack, though, P.S. & Co. is right next door —but…Pure Fare is the only one that offers WiFi, so choose wisely.

Best Juices and Smoothies: While both places have delicious smoothies, Pure Fare cinches the overall win. They offer fresh and bottled juices, while P.S. & Co only offers bottled options. Also, P.S. & Co. doesn’t serve coffee.

Most Informative: Pure Fare. It offers a calorie count for all menu items. Also, P.S. & Co.’s menu is confusing because each item is not offered daily.

Best Value: Pure Fare. Overall, I think it has way better prices and menu options (but let’s be real, neither are cheap).

Bottom Line: Unfortunately, all the food at both places is pre-prepared and packaged, but for flavor, quality and variety, Pure Fare wins. It just tastes better.
