Nearly one-fifth of Americans eat cereal for breakfast. That's over 60 million people. So it's not surprising that people can get quite creative when it comes to making their cereal a little bit more interesting. Here are 10 unusual but possibly delicious things that I found people (aka the Internet) are currently putting in their cereal.
1. Peanut Butter
If you've heard of Peanut Butter Puffin Cereal, then you know this idea is not relatively a new one. The only difference is that this gives you more satisfying taste of peanut butter.
You should try this out yourself, because peanut butter has many health benefits. It's high in protein that provides you the nutrition to start your morning off on the right foot. It also helps protect you from Alzheimer Disease and lower your risks of having type 2 Diabetes.
#SpoonTip: Peanut Butter Lover Day is on March 1st.
This will be very convenient for those who drink coffee and also have cereal in the morning. Because why would you have them separately if you can have them both at the same time? So pour that freshly brewed coffee with some milk onto your cereal for the ultimate kick-start to your day.
People can sometimes do the unexpected, but since you can put coffee in your cereal, there's no reason to stop you from enjoying your tea and your cereal at the same time. Try adding some sugar and milk—this will get rid of the bitter taste of the tea and make your cereal even more appetizing.
4. Ice Cream
You probably have had ice cream on a cone before, and this is not far away from that idea. Imagine crushing that cone and sprinkle it on top of your ice cream instead. Some Korean coffee houses are serving ice cream with corn flakes and it is amazing. The sweetness of the ice cream and the crunchiness of those flakes will make your experience unforgettable.
Throw some fruit into your milk then blend it and you'll have any type of fruit-flavored milk you desire. Then pour that fruity drink onto your favourite cereal. I think this is a double win for you.
Some people even add ice cream as a complement to their smoothies and cereal. And why not? If you can add one favourite onto your cereal, adding two or three seems even more exciting.
There are three types of people: the old fashioned milk and cereal fan, the creative cereal admirer, and the OJ cereal lover. In fact, more than 10% of U.S. Americans have admitted to pouring their orange juice into their cereal. I've personally never tried this before, but the idea sounds very tempting.
After @Vidarrina posted a picture of her lucky charm cereal topped with some ice cubes on twitter, the icereal sensation began. Plus, if your milk isn't cold enough for your bowl, throwing a few ice cubes in will keep your cereal cool until you finish.
8. Frozen Yogurt
"Yogurt and cereal" is becoming a popular trend, especially for those who enjoy working out and going crazy with their sweets. Like peanut butter, yogurt also has many health benefits. It contains a friendly bacteria called probiotics that helps your digestive system. It is also proved to benefit to your immune system.
9. Protein Powder
It may sounds a little strange, but it's an experience worth trying. It's time to let go of the old tradition of "milk and cereal" and accept that 60 million people out there are progressing with these new trends. And if you think that protein powder can give you an edge to your workout, this will sharpen your taste for cereal.
10. Cakes and Chocolate
Forget that diet for a day and prepare to drool over this caramel cheesecake with frozen yogurt, coco pops, and a chocolate shot. It contains all the sweetness that dessert lovers long for.
