Front End Engineer

Spoon University is looking to hire its first front end developer. We’re trying to help everyone find their people and make things together — and we believe that we can do that by using technology to form real communities around the world. Spoon University is a food media company for young people — but it’s so much more than that. And if you want to know more about us right away, read up on who we are.

We’re rebuilding our infrastructure to support growth up to 10M uniques and beyond, and we need a talented developer with an eye for design to lead the charge on the front end. You’ll be working with our brand new redesign to build the brand, create beautiful and interactive experiences for our users, and optimize every point in our conversion funnel to make sure that visitors become the most loyal users.

This position would work full-time out of our office in NYC, which has snacks and a couple dogs. You’d work on our small-but-mighty, three-person engineering team and make crucial decisions that affect the future of the company.

You’ll be working primarily in Javascript — the front end is built in Sails.js with Backbone and Marionette. Prior experience in those specific frameworks isn’t required.

What next?

The first step is to apply by sending an email to A resume is not necessary. We want you to include whatever information you think presents you in the best light. Include links to projects you have worked on, open source or closed, and be sure to include examples of design that you’re proud of. Most importantly, tell us a bit about yourself and the things you are passionate about.

Here are some questions you might want to answer:

  • What motivates you? Why this job?
  • What does your perfect environment look like?
  • What beside writing code are you passionate about?
