It’s Girl Scout cookie season: time to stock up on your favorite cookie. You can order them on the internet, pair them with your favorite wines, or even make them yourself, but, have you ever considered where the Girl Scout cookies you’re eating were made? About two thirds of Girl Scout cookies are manufactured by Little Brownie Bakers, while the other third is made by ABC Bakers. Both companies produce different cookies with different tastes and nutrition facts.

Thin Mints from Little Brownie Bakers are more chocolatey and rich, whereas Thin Mints from ABC Bakers are mintier and crunchier, since the cookies have different recipes. Nutrition-wise, both have 40 calories per serving, but ABC Bakers’ cookies are slightly healthier at 1.8 grams of fat, 2.8 grams of sugar, and 0.5 grams of protein per serving (compared to Little Brownie Bakers’ Thin Mints at 2.0 grams of fat, 2.5 grams of sugar, and 0.3 grams of protein per serving). See the side by side comparisons of each cookie at the Los Angeles Times. Though both cookies have different textures and flavors, which one tastes better depends on the person.

“Through numerous taste tests performed, we found that people often prefer one bakery over the other for most cookies,” said Carly Seitz in a Girl Scout Cookie taste test. “It’s clear too, we think, that all of these cookies do have definite taste differences, despite what we’ve all been told. Still, the preference votes we took were pretty evenly split overall.”
